Asset & vehicle tracking

Asset & vehicle tracking

Connect location and condition information with a useful asset-management workflow.

Discuss your requirements

Asset & vehicle tracking, explained

Turn a connected asset into useful operational information.

Tracking brings together a device, a positioning method, a connection and an application that people can use. The mobile service carries information from the tracker; it does not create accurate locations by itself. A useful design starts with what the organisation wants to know, how often it needs an update and what staff will do with the result.

Radian can help coordinate connectivity around vehicle fleets, hired equipment and other distributed business assets. Requirements vary between a powered vehicle reporting throughout the day and a battery-operated unit that checks in occasionally. We review those differences alongside coverage, device compatibility, data use and the process for managing the estate.

What it can do for your organisation

Practical benefits.
A clearer business fit.

01

A clearer view of distributed equipment

A tracking application can bring positions, timestamps and device status into a more useful operating picture. The information helps teams locate equipment, understand recent activity and organise follow-up work. Its value depends on the quality and age of the readings, not simply the presence of a map marker.

02

Connectivity matched to movement

Equipment may cross coverage areas or spend time at different depots and sites. Suitable multi-network options can be reviewed around those operating locations. A representative trial helps establish how the chosen tracker and SIM behave during normal journeys and periods without a usable connection.

03

A repeatable fleet process

Link each asset to its tracker, SIM and support record. Consistent activation, labelling and installation steps make expansion easier to administer. They also help distinguish a connectivity problem from a power, positioning or application issue when a unit stops reporting.

Make an informed choice

The options and details
worth understanding.

01

Positioning and message delivery

Satellite positioning, indoor radio methods and network-based location have different capabilities. Identify the method used by the tracker and the conditions in which it operates. The application should show when a reading was captured, rather than presenting the last received location as proof of the asset's current position.

02

Reporting intervals, buffering and power

Frequent updates can increase data use and power demand. A device may store readings locally while offline and upload them later, if its software supports that behaviour. Test the reporting schedule, battery or vehicle supply, reconnection and treatment of delayed readings together.

03

Remote access and application integration

Many trackers send data out to a platform and do not need public inbound access. Where remote administration is required, discuss the addressing, authentication and connection method. Device identifiers, asset records and the receiving application's interface need to remain consistent throughout replacement or SIM changes.

How this can fit your world

From a service description
to a practical requirement.

Illustrative scenario

A hire business with equipment across sites

A team wants a more reliable record of where equipment was last seen. The project can pair suitable trackers with mobile plans and an asset register. Trial units should cover the conditions that matter, including storage areas and inactive periods, before the installation approach is repeated across the estate.

Illustrative scenario

A delivery fleet reviewing its reporting

The organisation may need positions, journey events and proof-of-delivery information at different intervals. Review which information comes from the tracker and which comes from a driver application. Combining both requirements in a pilot helps establish realistic data use and a clear support boundary.

From planning to everyday use

Delivery with the details
thought through.

  1. 01

    Define the information

Agree the assets, operating locations and decisions the tracking information should support. Identify the required reporting intervals and acceptable age of a reading.

  2. 02

    Match device and service

Review positioning, power, installation and SIM compatibility. Confirm supported networks and the application's receiving method before ordering at scale.

  3. 03

    Trial real conditions

Test normal routes, storage and loss of connectivity. Check timestamps, delayed uploads and how missing reports appear to the operating team.

  4. 04

    Manage the estate

Record asset-to-device mappings, review usage and document replacements. Agree who investigates device, connection and application concerns.

Your proposal confirms the available features, supported platforms and delivery responsibilities. Product availability and individual service commitments depend on the selected agreement.

IoT use cases overview →
Does a mobile SIM itself provide GPS tracking?

A SIM provides a mobile service. The tracker and application determine how position is obtained and displayed. Some services offer network-based location, but that should not be assumed equivalent to a dedicated positioning device.

Can equipment still record information while offline?

Some trackers can buffer readings for later upload. That depends on their hardware, firmware and application. A trial should check storage limits and how the platform handles older readings when the unit reconnects.

Can we receive movement or boundary alerts?

Supported tracking applications may provide event and boundary rules. Their usefulness depends on positioning accuracy, reporting frequency and delivery. We can discuss the required behaviour with the appropriate application specialists.

How should we estimate monthly data?

Measure representative messages, update intervals and any additional transfers, including firmware work. A pilot produces a more useful starting point than assuming every tracker consumes the same amount.

Can we manage a growing number of trackers?

Yes, estate management can be planned around supported SIM tools and the tracking platform. Consistent identifiers, ownership records and usage review help the deployment remain understandable as it grows.

UK-wide service enquiries

Asset & vehicle tracking across the UK.

For fleets moving between UK sites, map the actual routes and reporting intervals rather than assuming uniform signal. Device compatibility, installation, mobile coverage and platform integration all need checking.

Based in Charlwood, we welcome enquiries nationwide, with a particular focus on Horley, Crawley, Gatwick, Surrey, Sussex and London. Delivery, availability and any site attendance are confirmed for your chosen service.
